West Bengal students learn conservation at nature camp
The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) hosted a nature study camp at Jayanti in the Buxa Tiger Reserve. This event took place on March 24-25 and aimed to teach young students about the environment. It is part of a broader initiative called ‘Mission LiFE,’ which promotes sustainable living to address climate change. The camp welcomed 100 students from ten schools in Cooch Behar and Alipurduar. They participated in activities such as living in tents, trekking nature trails, and observing local wildlife. The goal was to provide a hands-on learning experience about ecological conservation. Kalyan Rudra, the chairman of WBPCB, highlighted the urgency of environmental issues. He noted the alarming rise in carbon emissions and emphasized the vulnerability of Bengal to climate change. Subrata Ghosh, an officer at WBPCB, mentioned that exposing students to nature aimed to instill lifelong lessons about protecting the environment. WBPCB plans to expand this initiative throughout the state to further engage young people in conservation efforts.
