West Michigan lifts road weight restrictions March 31

Weight restrictions on roads in Muskegon and Ottawa counties, West Michigan, will be lifted on March 31. This change will start at 6 a.m. on Monday. The seasonal restrictions were put in place to prevent potholes and road damage during the spring. These weight restrictions began on March 3 and affect large vehicles like trucks and heavy equipment. For vehicles on restricted roads, legal load limits must be reduced by about 35 percent. Additionally, speed limits for trucks are lowered to 35 mph. The state of Michigan has weight restrictions on state trunklines, which include major highways like I-96, U.S. 31, and M-46. Local county and city roads may have similar restrictions that align with state laws. Road signs will be posted in restricted areas to inform drivers.
