West Texas facing strong winds from temperature differences
Windy weather is expected in West Texas this spring. Recently, the region experienced strong winds, similar to tropical storm conditions. On Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a high wind advisory, predicting strong winds in the late afternoon and evening. Forecaster Kevin Lamberson reported that winds could reach speeds of 30 mph or more, with gusts up to 50 mph. Dust may be blown around, reducing visibility in places like Odessa and Midland. However, the wind conditions are expected to be less severe compared to those experienced on March 14. The strongest winds will likely be in Southeast New Mexico and the Guadalupe/Delaware and Davis Mountains, where they could reach 70 to 80 mph. The weather service has defined a wind advisory for sustained winds between 31 and 39 mph and a high wind warning for those reaching 40 mph or higher. Lamberson explained that the transition from winter to spring, along with significant temperature differences, causes increased wind speeds. He noted that the strong winds and dust seen last Friday were an unusual occurrence, happening only once every two years.
