Westminster's Veterans Project starts facility remodel for veterans

The Carroll County Veterans Independence Project in Westminster is starting a major remodel to create a better space for veterans. The project will help struggling and homeless veterans by providing facilities for showers, laundry, and gatherings. The remodeling will cover 2,500 square feet. It will include a shower, a full kitchen, a laundry room, and a larger conference room. The project is being funded by a $250,000 state bond. Jason Sidock, the project's executive director, expressed gratitude during a recent ceremony attended by veterans and local officials. Work on the remodel is expected to take six to eight weeks. The City of Westminster has approved the necessary water services. Senator Justin Ready, who helped secure the funding, highlighted the importance of supporting veterans. He noted that this project will help veterans access essential services. At the ceremony, local veterans spoke about their need for these facilities. One Vietnam War veteran, Fulton Staffett, said they have waited a long time for this support. Another veteran, T.J. Johnson, shared that the Independence Project has greatly improved his life. Overall, the remodel aims to provide crucial resources for veterans, helping them get back on their feet. Community members and local leaders are rallying around this cause to show their support.
