WhatsApp collaborates with DoT to fight digital fraud

WhatsApp has teamed up with India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to fight against scams and digital fraud. This partnership includes working with the DoT’s Digital Intelligence Unit to use data that can help reduce financial crimes and cyber scams. As part of this effort, WhatsApp will create resources to help users recognize and report spam and scams. These materials will be available in eight regional languages to make them accessible to more people in India. The project is part of WhatsApp's "Scam se Bacho" campaign, which started last year with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This campaign aims to educate the public about the dangers of online fraud. WhatsApp plans to hold workshops for officials and volunteers to spread awareness about scams. The DoT will provide information that could assist in preventing cyber fraud. Joel Kaplan, an executive at Meta, mentioned the collaboration with Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. He emphasized that educating people on recognizing scams is crucial for their safety.
