WHO and Africa CDC launch $600 million mpox response plan

The Africa CDC and WHO have initiated a $600 million response plan to address the mpox outbreak affecting 12 African countries, declared a global emergency. Since January 2024, there have been 5,549 confirmed cases and 643 deaths, primarily in Congo. The plan emphasizes surveillance and community engagement, with 200,000 JYNNEOS vaccine doses recently delivered to Congo, where 3 million are needed to control the outbreak.
