WHO urges European countries to mandate reduced salt in foods

Summary: One in three adults in WHO's European Region has hypertension due to excess salt intake. Cardiovascular diseases kill 10,000 daily in the region. Men are 2.5 times more likely to die from CVDs than women. 52 out of 53 countries exceed WHO's recommended salt intake. Implementing policies to reduce salt intake by 25% could save 900,000 lives by 2030. Mandatory measures are needed to reduce salt in processed foods.
