WHO warns Afghanistan health services could shut down
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that 80% of its health services in Afghanistan may shut down by June due to a funding shortage. This situation follows significant cuts in U.S. aid and a shift in development priorities. Currently, 167 health facilities have already closed, impacting access to primary care for millions. WHO warns that without urgent funding, an additional 220 facilities could close, leaving 1.8 million Afghans without care. Afghanistan is also facing multiple health emergencies, including outbreaks of malaria and dengue. The lack of funding has affected other organizations, like Save the Children, which reported that many of its clinics are at risk of closure.
