Wichian Jityen, 32, died in Sakon Nakhon, initially thought to be a tragic road accident. Further investigation revealed he was murdered in a plan to defraud insurance companies of 14 million baht, shocking the local community. On February 10, Wichian reportedly fell from a pickup truck and was run over by two vehicles on Highway 2280. At first, both his family and authorities treated it as an accident. However, signs pointed to a conspiracy involving multiple insurance policies taken out on his life. Wichian's sister, Ms. Buarian, had shared concerns about her brother's violent behavior with Sakon Sonkaew, a family friend. Sadly, her plea for help led to Wichian's death. After being told Sakon was going to "teach Wichian a lesson," Ms. Buarian's family received tragic news that he had died. The investigation revealed that the vehicles involved had 28 insurance policies worth 14 million baht. Sakon, armed with a power of attorney from Wichian's disabled mother, aimed to collect the insurance money after the death. Ms. Buarian received only 100,000 baht from Sakon, raising her suspicions. On February 25, police were alerted by insurance companies about irregularities surrounding Wichian's death. An autopsy showed injuries inconsistent with a car accident, prompting a deeper inquiry. Authorities identified four suspects, including Sakon, who all faced murder charges but denied wrongdoing. Mounting evidence showed that the suspects, connected through a local council, had conspired in the plot. A significant breakthrough came when one of them, Phiraphat Rakkun, confessed. He revealed they had placed Wichian on the road for the vehicles to run over him. The investigation then led to the discovery of a police inspector, Pol Lt Col Nanmanas Phosri, who orchestrated the entire scheme. He had bought insurance policies in the area a month before the crime. He was arrested on March 12, raising alarms about potential corruption within law enforcement. The community remains in shock, now waiting for justice. With questions about other possible crimes, authorities continue to investigate the full extent of this chilling conspiracy.
