Wicked film adaptation splits into two parts for deeper storytelling
The film adaptation of "Wicked" has been split into two parts, with Part 1 recently released in theaters. This decision allows for a more detailed exploration of the characters Glinda and Elphaba, as they navigate their friendship and challenges in Oz. Director Jon M. Chu explained that condensing the story into one film would compromise its depth. The two-part format mirrors the original Broadway musical, which also consists of two acts, allowing for a richer narrative. "Wicked: Part Two" is set to be released on November 21, 2025, continuing the story of Glinda and Elphaba as they embrace their identities as the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch.
