Wicked movie adaptation splits into two films with sequel set for 2025
The upcoming "Wicked" movie, set to release on November 27, 2024, only covers the first half of the Broadway musical. A sequel is scheduled for November 21, 2025, to complete the story. Both films were filmed simultaneously. Director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt decided to split the adaptation to avoid cutting songs or characters. The first film will likely end after the song "Defying Gravity," which serves as a natural break in the story. The sequel will continue the plot, connecting to "The Wizard of Oz." Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, becomes the Wicked Witch, while Glinda, portrayed by Ariana Grande, navigates her role in the Wizard's administration.
