Wife ordered to pay $200M for Florida doctor’s killing
A civil court in Florida has ordered Rebecca Schwartz to pay $200 million to the three children of her late husband, Dr. Steven Schwartz. This comes more than ten years after Dr. Schwartz was found dead in their home. Dr. Steven Schwartz, a 74-year-old kidney specialist, was killed in May 2014. He was shot twice in the head inside his garage. Rebecca Schwartz initially reported a burglary, but later investigations led to her being found responsible for his death in a wrongful death lawsuit. Although no criminal charges were filed against her, the court ruled that Rebecca Schwartz "unlawfully and intentionally" caused the death of her husband. The children are expected to collect between $10 million and $20 million, despite the large judgment, as assets may be limited. The children's lawyer, Wil Florin, stated that the motive behind the killing appeared to be financial. Rebecca Schwartz allegedly embezzled money from her husband and was found misusing funds. There are claims that Dr. Schwartz was preparing to divorce her after discovering her actions. A handyman who had connections to Rebecca Schwartz was deported after pleading guilty to being an accessory to the murder. His DNA was found at the crime scene, and his alibi did not hold up under scrutiny. As of now, Rebecca Schwartz's attorney has not publicly commented on the court's decision.
