Williams F1 team faces disqualification at Chinese Grand Prix
One Formula One team could face disqualification from the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix. This comes after a significant rule violation was identified during a qualifying session on Friday. In this session, all 20 drivers took to the track at the Shanghai Audi International Circuit. Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton recorded the fastest lap and secured pole position. He was followed by his rival Max Verstappen and McLaren's Oscar Piastri. However, the Williams team, which had high hopes after a strong performance in Australia, may be in trouble. Driver Alex Albon qualified ninth for the sprint, while teammate Carlos Sainz ended up in 13th place. The issue arose when the FIA's technical delegate, Jo Bauer, revealed that Williams failed to provide required video footage of their rear wing within an hour after free practice. This footage is necessary to ensure compliance with new regulations regarding flexible rear wings. The FIA stated that this failure might lead to severe penalties for Williams. A final decision on the team's status will be made before the sprint race, with a team representative set to meet with stewards early Saturday morning. If a violation is confirmed, disqualification from the race is a likely outcome.
