Williams fined €50,000 for onboard camera error
Williams Racing has been fined €50,000 due to a technical error involving SD cards in their onboard cameras. The team failed to record important video during a recent race session because they misunderstood a new directive from the FIA. The FIA issued Technical Directive TD034L on March 19, 2025. This directive requires teams to ensure that cameras have the correctly formatted and empty SD cards at least ten minutes before starting any session. Williams mistakenly thought the cameras provided by FIA already had the necessary SD cards installed. During the race session, Williams noticed a warning light on the cameras but could not determine the issue in time. By the time they realized the problem, it was too late to fix it. Additionally, when the absence of the SD cards was discovered after the session, Williams did not inform the Technical Delegate about the failure. Despite this error, the FIA confirmed that Williams' rear wing complied with all technical regulations. Williams has accepted the fine and promised to improve their processes to avoid similar mistakes in the future. The team also expressed gratitude to the FIA for their handling of the situation.
