Windows 10 users urged to upgrade to Windows 11
Microsoft has warned its 800 million Windows users about an upcoming deadline for Windows 10. Many users have not yet upgraded to Windows 11, and the company recently urged them to take action. Currently, over 60% of Windows users are still on the older version. A new email from Microsoft states that support for Windows 10 is ending soon. It includes links to check if users can upgrade or if they need to buy a new computer. Despite a recent increase in upgrades, Microsoft’s rules for moving to Windows 11 are still strict. The email mentions that Windows 10 users will be left without support after October 14, 2025. This means that new security threats could put their PCs at risk. Microsoft assures users that their PCs will still work after the deadline, but they may not run newer applications and could become targets for hackers. About 240 million of the PCs still using Windows 10 do not meet the requirements to upgrade to Windows 11. This situation raises concerns about a potential environmental issue, as these outdated devices may end up in landfills instead of being reused. In the coming weeks, details about an optional $30 extended support for Windows 10 may be released. However, Microsoft has not confirmed whether more important security updates will be available for free after the deadline. Users are encouraged to upgrade or consider getting a new PC before it is too late.
