Wireless TV connection may increase input lag for gamers
Samsung has launched its new 2025 TV range, which includes the Wireless One Connect Box. This device allows TVs to connect wirelessly to various devices, eliminating the need for cables. It is featured in models like the Samsung Frame Pro and the QN990F 8K mini-LED TV. LG also offers a similar product called Zero Connect, which is designed for its LG M5 OLED TV. Samsung claims its wireless box can transmit signals effectively from up to 10 meters away, even with obstacles. This feature is appealing for gamers who want a cleaner setup. In terms of performance, input lag is an important factor for gamers. Ideally, they look for a latency below 15 milliseconds at 4K 60Hz for an optimal experience. While the Hisense U6N mini-LED TV recorded just 13.2ms with a direct connection, the Samsung Frame Pro registered a much higher lag of 35-37ms when tested wirelessly. Although 35ms is not disastrous, it might be noticeable for serious gamers. Samsung does suggest that the Frame Pro can achieve lower lag times of under 10ms at 4K 120Hz, but this could not be tested. Overall, while the new Samsung models may not meet the lowest latency standards, they still offer great features for everyday gaming.
