Wisdom Students advocate moral values to combat drug abuse
The Wisdom Students’ State secretariat emphasizes the importance of teaching moral values to young people to combat drug abuse. They believe that instilling these values early on helps shape character and views. Arshad Al Hikami, the president of Wisdom Students, criticized blaming individuals' criminal actions on their religious background. He warned that this approach creates divisions within communities. He urged political parties to unite and work together to address drug-related issues on campuses instead of shifting blame. This statement follows controversy sparked by comments made by K.T. Jaleel, an independent MLA from the Left Democratic Front. At an Iftar event, he suggested that some Muslim youths, despite religious education, are engaging in crimes such as drug use. His comments led to backlash and criticism from several Muslim leaders, although Jaleel defended his remarks, citing a trend he discovered regarding arrests related to drugs. In response, Wisdom Students announced plans for programs aimed at tackling drug abuse among students. They will host a State students conference in Perinthalmanna on May 11 to discuss these challenges further.
