Wofford hopes for upset against Tennessee in tournament
Wofford College is buzzing with excitement as their men's basketball team, the Terriers, prepares for the NCAA tournament. Forward Jeremy Lorenz shared his enthusiasm before the team departed Spartanburg on March 18. He described playing in March Madness as a dream come true. The season had its challenges, with more losses than expected, but the team has learned and improved from those experiences. The Terriers finalized their practice at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium before heading to Rupp Arena in Lexington. Wofford comes into the game with a record of 19-15, while Tennessee boasts a strong 27-7 record. The match will start at 6:50 p.m. and will be shown on the TNT network. Friends and family gathered to send off the players with cheers and encouragement. Wofford junior Will Troyer emphasized the team's determination, saying they are capable of beating a solid opponent like Tennessee. Excitement has been high on campus following their recent victory against Furman that secured their tournament spot. Hannah Kelly, a Wofford junior, mentioned the positive atmosphere on campus, as students eagerly discuss the upcoming game. Coach Dwight Perry, who took charge in March 2023, has been part of Wofford basketball for six years. His young son, Trey, joined heartfelt send-off efforts, expressing his eagerness to travel with the team. Wofford College, a private liberal arts school in Spartanburg, was established in 1854 and has around 1,900 students. The college's first lady, Prema Samhat, highlighted the significance of their tournament appearance for the students and the community, calling it a special opportunity.
