Wolfenden and Shahidi announce new projects post-Emmerdale
Matthew Wolfenden and Roxy Shahidi, former stars of the ITV soap Emmerdale, have shared news about their future projects after leaving the show. Wolfenden portrayed David Metcalfe for 18 years before departing in 2023, while Shahidi played Leyla Harding for 17 years. Wolfenden recently took part in a stage production of the musical "Elf," based on the popular 2003 film. Both actors have expressed the emotional impact of their departures, especially their goodbyes to fellow cast member Joe-Warren Plant, who played Jacob. In a recent Instagram post, Wolfenden shared a photo with Shahidi, calling her his "bestie." He invited fans to follow their new Instagram account, which is linked to a podcast they started in 2024. The account is gaining popularity, nearing 1,000 followers and already has two videos posted. Shahidi has been busy with her own yoga business, Yoga Rox. She also expressed interest in potentially joining another soap, mentioning "Coronation Street" or "Waterloo Road." She is excited about the possibility of traveling and teaching yoga, alongside making more podcasts with Wolfenden. Fans have reacted to both actors' exits with mixed feelings, often stopping Shahidi in the street to express their disappointment. She described these encounters as "bittersweet," highlighting the lasting connection she feels with her character.
