A 66-year-old woman from Lawton, Michigan, is charged with embezzling about $50,000 from her aunt, who lived in an assisted living facility. Barbara Cavner was arraigned in Paw Paw and faces one count of embezzlement from a vulnerable adult. Cavner allegedly misused her aunt's funds between March 2021 and October 2024 while acting as her aunt's power of attorney. She reportedly withdrew cash and made purchases for herself. If convicted, Cavner could face up to 10 years in prison and fines. She is scheduled for a probable cause conference on February 12 and a preliminary examination on February 18.
