Woman charged with murder of reporter in New Orleans
A woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a television reporter who died while covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Adan Manzano, 27, was found dead in a hotel room on February 5. Danette Colbert, 48, was arrested shortly after for stealing Manzano's bank cards and cellphone. Authorities say Colbert was seen on surveillance video entering the hotel room with Manzano. Police also found her in possession of his phone and credit cards. Alongside the murder charge, a suspected accomplice was arrested in Florida on fraud and theft allegations. Police have revealed that Colbert is a career criminal, with a long arrest record that includes drugging men and financial crimes. Despite inconclusive autopsy results regarding the cause of Manzano’s death, police believe they have enough evidence to prosecute Colbert. The coroner stated that Manzano died from “positional asphyxia” after taking alcohol and Xanax, which can be dangerous together. Colbert's lawyer has not commented on the case. Last month, police asked for public help in gathering more information about her involvement. Manzano was a sideline reporter for Kansas City's Telemundo affiliate. His death follows a personal tragedy, as his wife died in a car crash less than a year earlier. Colbert has previous felony convictions for fraud and theft.
