A woman has been accused of cheating a carpenter out of Rs 4.50 lakh with a fake job offer in Canada. The police in Panchkula have filed a case against Narmita Arya, who allegedly promised to help the victim find work. The victim, Mohammad Amjad, lives in Amravati and works as a carpenter. He met Arya in June 2022 when he completed a carpentry job at her home. She told him she could send him to Canada, claiming her sister owned a farmhouse there where he could work. Amjad agreed and paid Arya a total of Rs 4.50 lakh. He made various payments between June and September 2022, starting with Rs 4,800 in cash, followed by several transfers through a mobile payment app. Later, he also gave her Rs 1,70,000 in cash. After he paid the full amount, Arya assured him his visa would arrive within 10 days. However, when the visa did not come, Arya continued to delay, and eventually stopped answering his calls. Following multiple attempts to contact her, Amjad filed a complaint with the police. The police have confirmed that they are investigating the case. They registered charges against Arya under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. As of now, no arrests have been made.
