Woman diagnosed with multiple brain tumors, given three weeks
A woman from Cambridgeshire was diagnosed with multiple brain tumours after experiencing pins and needles in her leg. Julie Swallow, 56, initially thought the sensation was due to her demanding job as a dog hydrotherapist. However, after the feeling worsened, her friend encouraged her to seek medical help. At Kings Lynn Hospital, scans revealed two inoperable tumours in her brain. Doctors informed her that she had about three weeks to live and advised her to tell her family. Swallow had also previously survived breast cancer, and the tumours in her brain were believed to have spread from there. Despite being told that chemotherapy would not work for her, she was given monthly drug injections to control the tumours. Since then, additional tumours have been found and treated, including one that was surgically removed. This surgery left her with mobility issues, making it hard for her to walk. Despite these challenges, Swallow remains upbeat and values the small joys in life. She appreciates simple pleasures, like messages from friends and time with family. Doctors initially gave her a short time to live, but five years later, she is still alive and continues to focus on the positive aspects of each day. Experts from The Brain Tumour Charity caution that symptoms can differ among individuals. They advise anyone with unusual or persistent symptoms to consult a doctor.
