Woman discovers surprise pregnancy after surrogacy journey

Katlyn Sparks-Haught faced many challenges trying to become a mother. After three years of IVF treatments and seven miscarriages, she was told it would be nearly impossible for her to carry a baby. With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and an autoimmune disease, she had accepted surrogacy as her path to motherhood. In October 2024, Sparks-Haught welcomed a daughter through a surrogate named Kaitlyn Frey, who she knew from high school. Holding her baby was a deeply moving experience for Sparks-Haught. "It was like I could breathe for the first time," she recalled. Just as Sparks-Haught and her husband were adjusting to parenthood, they received surprising news. She discovered she was unknowingly 18.5 weeks pregnant. Initially, she thought her ongoing health issues were related to PCOS. After an MRI showed a 'mass' in her uterus, it turned out to be a baby. Even with years of being told she could not conceive, Sparks-Haught's pregnancy brought her unexpected joy. "I have so much gratitude," she said. She believes this second pregnancy is a blessing linked to her first miracle. Her baby boy is expected at the end of June 2025. Sparks-Haught is cherishing every moment, appreciating a journey she once thought was impossible.
