Woman in Margao retracts rape accusation
A woman in Margao has retracted her rape complaint just a day after it was filed. The case began when Janaki Shinkre, a local lawyer, found the 25-year-old woman from Karnataka crying on the street. After speaking with her, Shinkre helped the woman file a police report against an unidentified man. The police took action under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The woman claimed she was raped after being given an intoxicating drink. However, she later changed her mind, denied the accusations, and said she wanted to go back home to Karnataka. She also refused to have a medical examination. Shinkre has expressed concerns about the situation. She worries that the woman may have faced intimidation or pressure to retract her statement. Police investigations are now struggling to move forward due to the woman's change of heart.
