Woman killed intervening in student fight in Lucknow

A woman was shot and killed while trying to stop a fight among students in Lucknow, India. The incident happened on Saturday night outside her home in the Sairpur area. Sarika Shrivastava, 43, confronted a group of young men who were making noise and fighting. According to local police, Sarika and her husband were on the roof of their house when they noticed the altercation. Sarika initially asked the students to keep the noise down. As the shouting continued, she went to the group in an attempt to calm them down. When she threatened to call the police, one of the students pulled out a gun and shot her in the chest. Police arrived quickly and rushed Sarika to KGMU Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her body has been sent for postmortem. The couple had lived in the area for 20 years. Sarika’s husband, who works in sales, had previously complained about the disturbances from the hostel where the students lived. Eight male students from the hostel have been taken into custody for questioning. The main suspect is still on the run. Police are looking into the incident and said they will talk to the owner of the hostel, which does not have any CCTV cameras. They are also reviewing footage from nearby cameras. The couple had three children, and their son, Aditya, expressed concern about the noise made by non-residents visiting the hostel.
