Woman rescued from mud in Lincoln’s South Common

A 70-year-old woman was rescued after getting stuck in mud for nearly two hours while walking her dog in Lincoln. Gill Pyrah was visiting South Common with her dog, Luna, on March 12 when she stepped into a muddy area she thought was safe. Pyrah realized she was sinking and began to shout for help as she became more trapped. Debbie Burman, another dog walker, heard her cries but found it difficult to help without sinking herself. Rescue crews from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue arrived shortly after and began digging Pyrah out with their hands, as their tools were not effective in the soft mud. She described the experience as frightening, saying she became very cold as the temperature was just 3°C. After almost two hours in the mud, Pyrah was finally freed. Paramedics checked her condition and found her cold but otherwise unharmed. Pyrah thanked her rescuers and expressed concerns for others who might get stuck in similar situations. She emphasized the need for warnings about the dangerous areas of the common. The City of Lincoln Council has been contacted for a comment on the incident.
