Woman vandalizes Roosevelt statue during Long Island protest
A woman from Queens was arrested for vandalizing a statue of former President Theodore Roosevelt during an anti-Israel protest on Long Island. The incident occurred outside the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola over the weekend. Allyson Fairbanks, 60, threw a thick red liquid that looked like blood onto the statue. This act damaged the statue and the placard on its stone base, which is estimated to have cost about $2,000 to repair. After the protest, Fairbanks fled the scene. However, she was arrested on Monday and charged with second-degree criminal mischief and graffiti. During her arraignment on Tuesday, she was released to pre-trial services. Fairbanks is scheduled to appear in court again on April 4.
