Woman who accused Duke lacrosse players of rape admits to lying about 2006 allegations
Crystal Mangum, who accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape in 2006, admitted this week that her allegations were false. She stated that she "made up a story that wasn't true" and expressed regret for betraying their trust. Mangum, currently in prison for second-degree murder, acknowledged her actions during a podcast interview. She said she sought validation and hurt the players, who she now hopes can forgive her. The original charges against the players were dropped, and the prosecutor involved was disbarred for misconduct. Mangum is scheduled for release from prison in February 2026.
