Women testify to House Ethics about payments from Matt Gaetz for sexual favors
Two women testified to the House Ethics Committee that former Rep. Matt Gaetz paid them for sexual favors. One woman claimed to have witnessed Gaetz with her then-underage friend in 2017. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing. The ethics investigation began in 2021 and was separate from a previous Justice Department probe that ended without charges. The committee is considering whether to release its findings, despite opposition from House Speaker Mike Johnson. Democrats and some Senate Republicans have requested the report. Gaetz's lawyer stated that the lack of charges does not imply innocence, while the women’s lawyer called for transparency regarding the investigation.
