Women's History Month highlights women's contributions and challenges
Women’s history is important, but it is often ignored. Many women have shaped our past and present, yet their stories are frequently missing from educational discussions. Pete Willner from InterFaith Works of Central New York shared his reflections on women’s contributions. He is surrounded by women at home and work, making him aware of the struggles women have faced. Women gained the right to vote with the 19th Amendment about 100 years ago. Equal pay laws and protections against discrimination are much newer, some only 50 years old. Despite these legal advances, challenges remain. Issues like equal pay and support for working mothers continue to affect women today. The National Women’s History Alliance emphasizes why we celebrate Women’s History Month. Women have played important roles in education and leadership, helping to inspire future generations. This year’s theme is "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations." It highlights the impact of women in mentorship and leadership. Willner encourages everyone to recognize and celebrate the stories of women that often go untold. There are many contributions to acknowledge and honor in our country.
