World's oldest wild bird Wisdom lays egg at 74 years old

Wisdom, the world's oldest known wild bird, has laid an egg at 74 years old. The Laysan albatross was observed laying the egg on November 27 at Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge, marking her first breeding activity since 2021. Wisdom has previously raised 30 chicks and laid between 50 and 60 eggs in her lifetime. She has outlived three partners, with her last mate, Akeakamai, not seen for years. Akeakamai has now been fitted with a tracking device. This egg marks Wisdom's return to breeding after nearly four years. The average lifespan of a Laysan albatross is about 30 years, making her continued ability to breed notable.
