Xenoblade Chronicles X may achieve 60 fps on Switch 2
A programmer has found hints of a 60 frames per second (fps) mode in the newly released Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch. This discovery has sparked speculation about an upgrade when the next Nintendo console, known as Switch 2, is launched later this year. Modder MasaGratoR shared a screenshot from the game’s code on March 19. He indicated that the 60 fps mode is only partially working. Activating it leads to “weird issues,” suggesting it is not ready for use. The programmer explained that while the game can output 60 fps, players actually experience only 30 usable frames in gameplay. MasaGratoR mentioned that cutscenes sometimes function well, but other times, objects may appear shaky. This irregular behavior could be due to how the game renders frames. It's unclear whether this code is remnants of earlier development attempts or if it suggests a potential performance upgrade for the Switch 2. Xenoblade Chronicles X originally released for the Wii U in 2015 and was well-received as one of the console's best titles. The Definitive Edition, which launched on March 20, includes enhanced graphics and additional story content. Nintendo has not yet confirmed whether older Switch games will receive updates for the new console.
