Xpeng, a premium electric vehicle (EV) maker, has opened its first self-branded supercharging station in Hong Kong. This is the company's first location outside mainland China. Xpeng announced its partnership with Malaysian distributor Sime Darby to build the station in Wan Chai's Convention Square. The new station is designed to charge vehicles faster than Tesla's chargers. Xpeng's supercharging station can reach speeds of up to 360 kilowatts (KW), while Tesla's stations in Hong Kong only support up to 250 KW. Brian Gu, Xpeng's vice-chairman and president, emphasized the importance of fast charging at the opening of their tech experience store. Gu stated that Xpeng is helping lead Hong Kong into the age of superfast charging. The company aims to expand its self-branded supercharging network to Southeast Asia in the near future. Carmakers believe that faster charging will ease drivers' concerns about the range of EVs, potentially increasing sales.
