Yacht sinks in Cass Bay; dog rescued safely

A yacht sank in Cass Bay, Lyttelton during a storm overnight. The 12.5-meter boat went down while moored in the water. Fortunately, a dog that was on board the yacht has been rescued and returned to its owner. Environment Canterbury (ECan) confirmed the dog's safe recovery. After the storm, ECan reported that there was no major oil or fluid spill from the yacht. The vessel contained 1000 liters of diesel and about 40 liters of lubricant and hydraulic fluid, but they did not see any significant loss. Clean-up efforts are underway. ECan staff will collect debris from the area, and the public has been advised not to remove anything.
