Yadgir district faces drinking water crisis and heat wave
Officials in Yadgir district, Karnataka, are taking action to address a growing water crisis amid rising temperatures and a heat wave. Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela held a meeting on March 19 to discuss urgent steps needed before the monsoon season. Susheela emphasized that managing drinking water is a top priority. She instructed officials to regularly test the quality of water supplied to both rural and urban areas. If any water is found unsafe for drinking, local bodies must inform the public. Tahsildars, executive officers, and engineers from the rural drinking water department are expected to collaborate. They must ensure no contaminated water is part of the supply and act quickly to resolve any issues. The district is preparing for possible pre-monsoon rainfall. Officials have been urged to inform residents about safety during thunderstorms and rain incidents. They must also ensure a steady electricity supply and replace faulty transformers. Zilla Panchayat CEO Lavish Ordia highlighted the need for clean drinking water in rural communities. Officers were told to be responsive to all reports of water issues. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sharanabasappa Koteppagol and other officials were also present at the meeting.
