Yankees unlikely to pursue trade for Willi Castro
The New York Yankees are facing challenges as they prepare for the 2025 MLB season. The team has been hit hard by injuries and needs help, especially at third base. Nolan Arenado has been mentioned as a trade target, but the Yankees are not interested in taking on his expensive contract. Another player, Willi Castro of the Minnesota Twins, emerged as a potential option. Castro was an All-Star last season and seems like a better fit for New York’s budget. However, Castro's status now appears uncertain. The Twins lost infielder Royce Lewis to injury, which means they need Castro to stay on their roster. The Yankees may have to keep Oswaldo Cabrera at third base for now. Cabrera played well defensively but struggled offensively last season, hitting .247 with eight home runs. Castro would have provided a boost to the Yankees' lineup, but the team may have to wait until the trade deadline to address their needs at third base. As opening day approaches, it seems the Yankees are settling in with Cabrera for the time being.
