The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has announced plans to allocate 100 acres of land for a new medical college and hospital by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). This facility will be located near the Noida International Airport and aims to improve healthcare for over 5.65 million insured individuals in the National Capital Region (NCR). Yeida's chief executive officer, Arun Vir Singh, stated that the land would be provided at no cost for the medical college and hospital. The land acquisition process has already received approval from local villagers. The proposal will be reviewed by the Yeida board on March 28 for formal approval. The decision follows ESIC's earlier approval to establish medical colleges in ten locations, including Noida. This initiative is part of a government plan announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create 75,000 new medical seats in the next five years. Currently, ESIC operates 165 hospitals and numerous dispensaries across India, serving approximately 144.3 million beneficiaries. As the number of insured persons is expected to rise above 40 million by March 2025, ESIC is on track to become a major player in medical education, second only to the Indian government.
