Yeida raises land rates to ₹4,300/sqm for farmers

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) is set to increase the land purchase rate for farmers from ₹3,400 per square meter to ₹4,300. This decision comes as a response to ongoing protests by farmers in the region. The new rate aligns with what is being offered for land acquisitions related to the Noida Airport project. The proposal for the rate increase will be discussed in an upcoming board meeting on March 28. The higher rate is aimed at ensuring that farmers receive the same compensation as those whose land is being taken for the airport's development. Previously, the state government raised the land purchase rate in December 2024 but did not apply the same increase to agricultural land not involved in the airport project, leading to farmer protests. Arun Vir Singh, the CEO of Yeida, emphasized that the rate hike will encourage farmers to part with their land for industrial and urban projects planned along the Yamuna Expressway. Yeida aims to directly buy land from farmers, avoiding the lengthy process outlined in the Land Act of 2013. Farmers have welcomed the proposed increase, stating it is necessary for fair compensation. Mukesh Bhati, a farmer from Mirzapur village, expressed optimism that the rise in rates would help negotiate land for developmental projects. The Noida Airport is being developed in phases, with significant agricultural land already purchased for its construction. The project is part of a larger plan, which includes acquiring 4,500 hectares for the airport and 60,000 hectares for future development along the Yamuna Expressway. Yeida plans to establish various industrial and urban initiatives, including logistics parks and educational hubs, in the region.
