In Itanagar, the Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) held a major river clean-up event on Saturday. This initiative was in partnership with the Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society and the Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Limited. The event celebrated World Water Day and aimed to promote awareness about the importance of river conservation. Volunteers gathered along the Yagamso River at Energy Park. They worked hard to remove plastic waste and debris that were blocking the river. At the same time, a placard-making competition took place for students and young people. The theme was "Save River, Save Life." Participants created art and wrote slogans to show their dedication to protecting rivers. The competition recognized three winners: Kipa Achum, Jumgnam Bui from North East Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital, and Yanio Dadda from Kingcup School. They received gift hampers and tree saplings as rewards, symbolizing their commitment to a healthier environment. YMCR's general secretary, Prem T Loda, spoke about the urgency of river conservation, emphasizing how it relates to climate change. He noted that rivers in Arunachal Pradesh start from Himalayan glaciers, which are at risk. He encouraged the local community to take responsibility for these vital resources for future generations. This event combined practical efforts with education, motivating both youth and the broader community to protect their rivers and natural heritage.
