Younger patients in India face aggressive colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer is increasingly being diagnosed in younger patients under 50, with a rise in aggressive forms and higher recurrence rates. This shift is linked to lifestyle factors such as poor diet and lack of exercise, according to research from the Delhi State Cancer Institute. Younger patients often experience delayed diagnosis due to misinterpretation of symptoms, leading to advanced-stage cancer at the time of detection. Genetic mutations in younger individuals may also contribute to more aggressive tumor behavior, complicating treatment. To address this trend, there is a need for increased awareness and early screening, especially for those with a family history of the disease. Improved detection efforts are essential to combat the rising prevalence of early-onset colorectal cancer in India.
