Zakir Hussain, a renowned tabla player, has died at 73. He gained fame for his collaborations with rock legends like George Harrison and Van Morrison. After Ravi Shankar's death in 2012, Hussain became a key ambassador for Indian classical music. Born in Mumbai in 1951, Hussain began performing at a young age. He moved to California in 1970, where he worked with various musicians, including the Grateful Dead. His album "Planet Drum" won the first Grammy for best global music album in 1991. In 2024, Hussain made history by winning three Grammy awards in one year. He is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola, and their two daughters.
