Zakir Hussain, renowned Indian tabla player, dies at 73
Zakir Hussain, a renowned Indian classical musician and tabla player, died at 73 from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in San Francisco. His family announced his passing on Sunday. Hussain was celebrated for his contributions to music over a six-decade career, collaborating with various artists and forming the fusion band "Shakti." He was the first Indian musician to win three Grammy awards in 2024. Born in 1951 in Mumbai, Hussain was a child prodigy and the son of tabla master Ustad Alla Rakha. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
