Zambia police officer arrested for allegedly freeing prisoners to celebrate New Year's Eve

A police officer in Zambia has been arrested for allegedly releasing over a dozen prisoners to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Detective Inspector Titus Phiri reportedly seized cell keys while intoxicated and unlocked both male and female cells. Phiri instructed the detainees to leave, claiming they were free to celebrate. A manhunt is underway for 13 prisoners who remain at large, some facing serious charges like assault and theft. The Zambia Police Service emphasized its commitment to law and order and stated that action will be taken against any officer who abuses their authority.
