Zelensky accuses Putin of influencing U.S. policy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of using propaganda to influence U.S. policy. He claimed that some high-ranking officials in former President Donald Trump's administration believed misinformation from Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky mentioned that these officials suggested Ukraine did not want an end to the ongoing war. His comments came as peace talks began between Russia and the Trump administration in Saudi Arabia. A Russian missile struck a children's hospital in Sumy, injuring nearly 90 people, including 17 children. Ukraine's foreign minister called for Russia to stop its attacks on civilians instead of making empty statements about peace. President Trump is aiming for a quick end to the three-year conflict. The talks are focused on establishing an initial ceasefire in the Black Sea and resuming a prior agreement that allowed food exports from Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that renewing the Black Sea Initiative is on the agenda. Zelensky expressed his concerns in an interview, stating that he believes misinformation from Russia has swayed some individuals in the White House. He also highlighted a recent tense exchange he had with Trump, suggesting a lack of alliance. Meanwhile, Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, anticipated progress at the negotiations, although Moscow downplayed the likelihood of a swift ceasefire.
